According to Chinese Medicine, when a mama gives birth, a lot of “Qi” (“life-force energy) and blood is lost in the process, which is turn can create a cold, depleted environment in the uterus and belly. Fortunately, using this well-known method of placenta preparation is thought to have a healing, tonifying, and warming effect on the body, bringing the energy of mama back into balance by naturally adding “warmth” to the encapsulation process by gently heating the placenta with added fresh ginger. The rest of the preparation is the same as the RAW method: the placenta is cleaned beforehand, sliced, dehydrated after the steam, and then encapsulated.
*Due to the heating effect of this method, mamas who have “heat signs” as we call them in Chinese medicine, should not opt for this method. Heat signs are: bright red tongue, red eyes, or irritability.

The RAW method of preparation skips the heating and ginger process altogether. The placenta is still cleaned beforehand, sliced, dehydrated at a slightly lower temperature than the Chinese Medicine method, and then ground into a powder for the capsules. Raw food activists believe that steaming the placenta destroys some of the essential nutrients. Using this option provides a burst of energy upfront and great hormone stabilization.
*Due to the raw nature of this method, it can tend to have a more stimulating effect in general. This method is not advised for mamas who feel they may suffer from insomnia or anxiety, or mamas that may be more sensitive to their surroundings/outside “stimulation”.

½ + ½ preparation allows you to receive the benefits of both the Raw and Chinese cooked methods by preparing half of the pills with raw method and half with Chinese method. Some women prefer this method so that they can utilize the benefits of both of the different options!

If you want to benefit from your Placenta indefinitely (capsules have a shelf life of 2 years, and then the potency declines steeply), invest in a Placenta Tincture!
Putting part of your placenta in tincture form is another way to stretch out its longevity long after the capsules are gone. Tincturing is when a small piece of placenta is added to 100 proof alcohol and set to ferment for 6 weeks.
